Betty Slemp Kamber

Betty Slemp Kamber passed on to her heavenly home on February 9, 2019 at NHC Kingsport after a long struggle on smoldering myeloma with her husband Bob of 63 years by her side.  She was one of twin daughters of Frona Slemp and A.C. Slemp of Big Stone Gap, Virginia.  Betty was born on May 27, 1929 in Faraday, Kentucky, graduated from Whitesburg, Kentucky High School, and Stephens College in Columbia Missouri.  She and her husband, Bob moved to Kingsport in 1987 and are members of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church.

Betty was a devoted twin sister, home maker and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She liked playing bridge when she could, reading, and travel, particularly after Bob retired.  She was a great shopper and had good tastes when it came to fashions in clothes and interior home design.  She will be greatly missed by Bob, her children and their families, and her friends.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved identical twin sister, Margie Slemp Andes and her husband G. D. Andes, DVM; brother Sidney A. Slemp; and sister Laura Lee McCormick and husband Jack McCormick.

Survivors include her husband Robert; sons Steven R. Kamber and wife Stacey, Dallas, Texas and Scott W. Kamber and wife Beth, Laramie, Wyoming; daughter Robyne Kamber May and husband Rory, Brandon, Florida; Stephanie Kamber Pessarra, and husband Kris and their two year old twins Camille Stacey Pessarra and Leo Robert Pessarra; Sean Kamber and wife Elizabeth and their two year old son Steven G. Kamber; USAF Major Robert Arnold Kamber and wife Jamie; Michael Allen Kamber and wife Shannon; sister-in-law Phyllis Kamber Rold and brother-in-law Richard Kamber and wife Mary Jane; nephew Gary Andes, DVM and wife Andrea, niece Terri Andes Rice and husband Frank along with several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church at 12 – 1 PM on February 14, 2019 immediately before a Celebration of Life service at 1 PM at the church with Rev. Collin Adams officiating.  A private interment will follow at the WRPC Columbarium.
