Betty L. Jessee

Betty Lois Jessee, 86, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord and the love of her life, David W. Jessee and daughter, Janeen Jessee Gragg, early Saturday morning (July 16, 2016) at the Wexford House.

She was born in Wise County, Virginia and had lived in Kingsport since 1952. Betty was a member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church and formerly worked there as well as sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She later worked at First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David W. Jessee; her daughter, Janeen J. Gragg; parents, George & Lakie Reed Sulfridge; sisters, Gladys Bennett, Alice Dingus, Mary Lee Olinger, and Hazel A. Haynes; and her brother, Glenn "Pete" Sulfridge.

Betty L. Jessee is survived by her son, David W. Jessee, Jr. and wife, Sandra Jessee of Bradenton, FL; twin granddaughters, Holly E. Whittemore & husband, J. Whittemore of Jonesborough, TN, and Kerry A. Prescott & husband, Ishon D. Prescott and one great grandson, Bennett D. Prescott, of Gambrills, MD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Bloomingdale Baptist Church. The service will follow at 7 p.m with Pastor Phil Whittemore officiating. The Bloomingdale Baptist Church Choir will provide special music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends attending the graveside are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45pm. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Haynes, Butch Payne, and the other deacons of Bloomingdale Baptist Church.
