Betty Wanda (Harrell) Light, 87, of Rock Hill, SC, formerly of Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, August 3rd, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Light was born on January 13, 1932, in Hawkins County, TN to S.C. Harrell, Sr. and Agnes Carpenter Harrell.
She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1950 where she received the Margaret Deakins Art Award for her artwork. She was employed at Kingsport Press and was owner of Wanda’s Specialty Shop. She also worked at Harrington Jewelers and Sally Wallace Bridal Shop. She was a member of Sullivan Baptist Church. Wanda loved watching birds at her bird feeders, playing with her cats and spending time with her family and beloved grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, other than her parents, were daughter, Patricia Marlene Fields; the father of her children, Robert Fields; her late husband H.R. Light; her brothers, Jasper Harrell, Benny T. Harrell and S.C. Harrell, Jr.
She is survived by her sons Mark A. Fields and wife Lisa and Jonathan A. Fields and wife Debbie; grandsons Justin A. Fields and wife Jessy, Tyler A. Fields and Cameron D. Fields; sister-in-law Cathyrne Harrell; and several nieces and a nephew.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlet-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral Services will follow in the chapel with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating. Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday at 10:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park, Garden of the Well. Family and friends will serve as pall bearers.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Carolina Medical Center – Main, Charlotte, and the loving staff at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC. The family also requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to your local animal shelter or Hospice House.
