Betty Moore McMillin, 98, of Johnson City, formerly of Kingsport, passed away peacefully and was united with Christ on Sunday morning, November 24, 2024. Born April 13, 1926 to the late John Tasca and Maggie Bookout Moore of Atlanta, Georgia. Betty was married to the late Bill McMillin for 36 years. Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters.
She was a graduate of Fulton High School, class of 1944 and attended Bessie Tift and Georgia State College. After they got married in 1948, Bill and Betty moved to Kingsport when he began his career at Tennessee Eastman Company.
Betty is the beloved mother of Dr. Rodney Moore McMillin (Robin), Kingston, TN, Dr. William “Cham” McMillin (Conti), Kingsport and Dr. Jeffrey McMillin (Debbie) Blountville, TN. Along with her children and their wives, she is loved by her seven grandchildren, Casey Monteleone, Billy McMillin, Drew McMillin, Abbye Robinson, Jake McMillin, Sara Stocstill and Bart McMillin. She is the great-grandmother to seventeen great-grandchildren ages 11 months old to 13 years old.
Betty was an avid University of Tennessee football and basketball fan. She rarely missed watching the Lady Vols play basketball. She was a Master Bridge Member, an avid tennis player, and was always the life of the party. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with absolute unconditional love.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, Tennessee, where she was a member for over 60 years. Visitation will start at 4:00pm with the service to follow at 5:00pm.
A private burial will take place in the Garden of Solomon at Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 213 Colonial Heights Road, Kingsport, TN 37663.
