Betty Sue Poe of Blountville died on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 after a fulfilling and happy life, with family, friends and her church. She was born on February 24, 1932 in Fordtown, Tennessee to parents, T.F. and Ellen Durham Minga. Betty Sue graduated from Holston High School in 1949 and ETSC in 1953 with a degree in music. She taught music for 29 years in Sullivan County, retiring from Indian Springs Elementary.

She was a member of Wheeler United Methodist Church where she was the organist for 67 years, taught the Asbury-Pavior Sunday School class, was active in United Methodist Women, and served in numerous other positions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Poe; sister, Mary Lee Minga Palmer; brothers, Powell, W.A. and Joe Minga; and nephew, Toy Allen Minga.

Betty Sue is survived by sons, Michael Poe, and Jeffrey Poe and wife, Mari; nieces, Melinda (Lindy) Palmer Cox, Elizabeth Cox, Emily Cox, Lillie Fannon, Ellen Shadeed and husband, David, and Genoa Minga; nephews, Donald Minga, Wesley Minga and wife, Robin, and Philip Minga and wife, Suzanne; great-nieces, Rachel Keel and husband, Tom, Madison Minga and Michaela Minga; great-nephews, Michael Shadeed, Joseph Minga, and Garrett Minga; sisters-in-law, Norma Minga, Faye Minga, and Kathleen Minga; brother-in-law, Donald Poe and wife, Nancy, nephew, David Poe and nieces, Donna Carter and Denise Thomas.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11-1:00 pm at Wheeler United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Chris Brown officiating. Burial will follow in East Tennessee Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jim Deck, Donald Minga, Wesley Minga, Philip Minga, Bobby Henry and David Poe. Honorary pallbearers will be Skip Anderson, Ralph Burrell, Charlie Darnell, Jim Frazier, Roger Hayes, Robert Helvey, Wendel Millsap, Howard Lee Sanders, The Wheeler Choir, Sunday School class and Susanna Wesley Circle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wheeler United Methodist Church, 211 Sanders Street, Blountville, TN 37617.
