Betty Sue Sullins

Betty Sue Sullins, 88, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2015, at NHC Healthcare, Bristol, following a period of declining health. Born in Johnson City on December 10, 1926, daughter of the late Glenn C. and Carma Young Starr of Erwin, she resided in this area most of her life. Betty had been a member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church since May 3, 1953. She was a member of the Mary & Martha Circle and a member of the Shepherds at Waverly Road, a member of the Flower Lovers Garden Club for over 60 years and a girl scout leader for 8 years.

She enjoyed playing bridge in several clubs and was one of the Neighborhood Lunch Bunch. Betty Sue will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mom, grandmother, and friend.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to NHC Healthcare, Bristol, nurses and CNA's.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, John K. Sullins; her sister, Mrs. Doris Day Hager of Erwin; grandson, Nicholas Sullins; and great-grandson, Harlan Sullins.

Betty is survived by her sons, Glenn Kenneth Sullins and wife, Pam of Tega Cay, SC, and Douglas Alan Sullins of Johnson City; daughter, Carma Starr Owens and husband, Allen of Bristol, TN; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous special friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 pm at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will follow in the church at 1:00 pm with Dr. Dan Clark and Dr. Angus Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Monte Vista Burial Park in Johnson City. Pallbearers will be family members.
