Beverly Jo Anne Schism, 79, of Kingsport passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born March 4, 1936 on the farm of her maternal grandparents, Smith and Nell Fisher Long in Whitesburg. She was the widow of the late George Robert "Bob" Schism who she married June 1, 1958, at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport by the late Dr. Allen Kirk. They were married for 40 years. Beverly was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport and served for many years as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels administered by the church. She was a descendant of the Rev. Tidance Lane, the first pastor of any denomination and the first Baptist pastor of the state of Tennessee.
Beverly was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended East Tennessee State University. She was an employee of J. Fred Johnson's for several years and later became a long-time employee of Heritage Federal Savings and Loan until she retired. She was a member of the Women of the Moose of Kingsport and supporter of Moose Haven.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Laura Allison Crapsey of Kingsport; parents, Victor Woodrow and Eva Jeanette Long Heck of Kingsport; paternal grandparents, R.L and Tressie Coward Heck; and her maternal grandparents.
Beverly is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Donn and Jack Kilday of Kingsport; one aunt, Maxine Long Shepherd of Bulls Gap; one uncle, Raymond "Wendy" Heck of Kingsport; two nieces, Dr. Mary Jane Short of Kansas, and Ann Baker of Florida; one nephew, Bill Kilgore of SC; special friends, Kenneth and Brenda Conkin, Brian and Mark Conkin, Tom and Barbara Zollman all of Kingsport, and Kenneth Van and Lois Fisher of Knoxville, and all her friends of Willowcrest Place and Kingsport Moose; and several cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Indian Path Medical Center.
Per her request, her body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Rev. Richard Long officiating.
