Bill Tilley

Kingsport, TN - William P. Tilley, Jr., 82, of Kingsport, died Sunday, January 18, 2009, at his home.

He was born in Andover, VA, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was employed by Eastman Chemicals Division of Kodak for 36 years, retiring as Personnel Manager in 1987.

Bill was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, a former board member of the Salvation Army, and a 40+ year member of the Kingsport Lions Club, which recently honored him as "Lion of the Decade". Bill was one who always served others first and gave back to his community by serving his church and several volunteer organizations. His faith and his family were the highest priorities and loves of his life.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Ann M. Tilley, a granddaughter, Whitney L. Tilley, and his oldest brother, Clarence E. Tilley. Surviving him are his son, Gary and wife Katy Tilley of Abbeville, SC; daughter Pam Tilley and son-in-law Richard Onks, of Kingsport; and son, Mark and his wife Trista Tilley of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren Courtney Tilley; Christie and Brad Onks; Mitchell, Camden, Lindsay, and Scottie Tilley; his brother, Kenneth Tilley of Oak Ridge, TN; and his dog, Corky.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church, with Rev. A. Clark Jenkins officiating. Entombment will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
