Billie Price Chapman, age 96, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Asbury Place after a short illness. She was a native of Erwin, Tennessee and since 1945, a resident of Kingsport. Mrs. Chapman attended Tusculum College, and was a graduate of East Tennessee State University. During WW II, she worked at Holston Defense and taught school in Erwin. She married Blake Chapman in 1945.
After 33 years of service with Eastman Chemical International, she retired in 1979 and focused on volunteer work. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Grandfather Home for Children, Banner Elk, North Carolina, and duties included landscape design at the Home. As a volunteer at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center for 23 years, she received the Genevieve Shivell and Cecilia Ring awards for having shown exceptional leadership and outstanding service for many years. Mrs. Chapman was a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, and belonged to several local organizations.
She was preceded in death by parents, Samuel L. and Blanche Proffitt Price; her husband, Blake Chapman; sister, Elsie Price Oakley; and a special nephew, Thomas M. Oakley.
Mrs. Chapman is survived by 3 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Cindy Chapman (John) of Alcoa, Tennessee, Mrs. Marjorie Chapman (Roy) of Murfreesboro, and Mrs. Alice Chapman (Gene) of Erwin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church.
