Billie Jo "B.J." Russell Whisman, 78, of Kingsport, passed away at home Wednesday, March 30, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
She was a graduate of Dobyns Bennett High School, class of 1951. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Billie Jo worked at Holston Defense Corp. where she met and married her husband, George. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Mary Russell.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, George M. Whisman of Kingsport; son Lee Whisman and wife, Linda of Kingsport; daughter Mary Beth Whisman of Gambrills, MD; four grandchildren Megan, Randall, Sophia and Zane all of Kingsport; and a brother S. Albert Russell of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, April 1, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will be held on Saturday at 10 am with Dr. Ron Davis officiating.
Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Steven Russell, John Whisman, Jeffrey Roop, David Watson, Samuel Joseph Watson and William R. Horton. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles Eberhart and J. Frank Cress.
The family would like to thank the wonderful ladies from Amedisys: Brooke and Angela; and the wonderful ladies from Care Central: Donna, Becky, Karen and to Sheri who cared for her for almost 4 years.
