Billy S. Burns, 80, of Kingsport, died Friday August 31, 2012 at his home.
Following high school Bill served for four years in the U. S. Navy and was a graduate of Appalachian State University. Bill had retired from teaching science at Dobyns-Bennett High School, where he had taught for 30 years.
Bill was a member of Heritage First Church of God in Kingsport.
He was involved in the establishment of Warner Southern University in Lake Wales, FL serving as a board member for many years.
He is survived by his wife Minyonne Burns, Kingsport; one son, Bruce Burns and wife Sharon of Valdese, NC; one granddaughter, Britney White and husband Jerry; three great-grandchildren, Erin, Keri, and Brycen; a brother, Paul Burns and wife Linda of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Janet Clevenger of Black Mountain, NC and Joan Treadway and husband Leon of Valdese, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday September 4th at Heritage First Church of God.
A memorial service will follow visitation at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steve Tilley officiating.
