Billy Jack Light

He was the best.

Billy “Jack” Light, 82, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord and his sons, on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Life Care Center of Gray following a period of declining health.  Born in Fall Branch on April 5, 1936, a son of the late Barton and Mae Light, he had resided in this area his entire life.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Mason Dixon/A&M Freight Lines in 1997 following 30+ years of service and was a member of Teamster Local 549.  He attended First Baptist Church of Fall Branch.  Jack will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, papaw, brother and friend who loved to nickname, camp, and most of all, make people laugh.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Life Care Center of Gray.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sons, Scotty and Chris; sisters, Pat and Louise “Tootie”; and brother, George “Brud.”

Jack is survived by his wife of 60+ years, Jo Ann Light; daughter, Ann Flanary and husband, Donald, of Kingsport; grandchildren, Sacha Veal and husband, Zac, of Gray, and Chandra Breeding and husband, Steven, of Johnson City; great-grandsons, Rider and Beckham Breeding, and an anticipated baby Veal; sisters, Lawanda Dickerson and Linda Painter, both of Fall Branch; sister-in-law, Virginia Light of Jonesborough; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Kenneth Cox and Bill Boyd.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch.  The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Emeritus Vic Wallace and Pastor Shawn Cutshall officiating.

Burial will follow committal services at 11:00 am on Thursday in First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tom Owens, Anthony Mann, Roger Dickerson, Donald Flanary, Steven Breeding, Zac Veal, Rusty Dickens and Johnny Dickens. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Jones, David Poore, Kenneth Cox and Bill Boyd.

Those attending committal services are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 am on Thursday.
