Billy Stuart "Poppy" Thorp

Billy Stuart "Poppy" Thorp, 60, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Born and raised in Clinchport, VA, he lived in Kingsport most of his life. He worked for TDOT in the maintenance department and was a member of Tiptons Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Billy loved the Lord and was thankful for all He had done for him and told it everywhere he went.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Della Thorp; brothers, J.C., Ray, Vernon, Harold, Rick, and Grady Thorpe; and sister, Janice Williams.

Billy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shirley Thorp; one daughter, Cynthia Espinoza and husband Robert; one son, Jonathan Thorp and wife Sarah; four grandchildren, Robert, Quenton, Savannah Espinoza, and Zalan Adkins; two sisters, Regina Ramey and Sue Roberts; brother, Cecil Thorp; mother-in-law, Clara Roberts; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

The Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Mike Gilliam and Rex McMurray officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Joe Roberts officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Thorp, Quenton Espinoza, Robert Espinoza, Robert " Lil Rob" Espinoza, Zalan Adkins, Nathan Willis, Teddy Tharp, Charlie Light and Craig Hackler. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Roberts, Gene Harless, Bob Russell, Bill Hill and John Henry.
