2 Timothy 4:7, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
Bishop Fred Austin Greer, 73, Kingsport, passed peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior June 18, 2014.
He was a minister of the gospel for over 42 years. He was a true example of what a Christian should be. Even in his last days, his main concern was for Victory Life Center, the church he built and pastored. He had the heart of a shepherd; he cared for his sheep. He shared the gospel with everyone he met and many souls were won to the Lord throughout his ministry. He was a wonderful man of God and a blessing to many people. There will be a great void in the lives of all who knew him. We find comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to present with the Lord.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Margaret Wedge Greer; brother, Bill Greer; and sister, Gladys Kennedy.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Lois Mowdy Greer; son, Mack Greer; daughter, Betty Brickey and husband, Tim; two grandchildren, Leanne Greer and Anna Brickey; sister, Lola Kennedy; and close friend, Mary Taylor.
Thanks to Michelle from Advanced Home Care and Susanna from Wellmont Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow at 7 p.m.
The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Church members will serve as pallbearers.
