B. N. "Bob" Scoggins passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born May 25, 1929, he grew up in Moultrie, GA, where he met his future wife, Barbara, whom he married in 1950. He attended Lincoln Memorial University, served in the US Army in Korea during the Korean War, and graduated with a B.S. degree in chemistry in 1954. Bob and Barbara moved to Kingsport when he began working for Eastman Kodak. They started their family and joined First Baptist Church, where he remained an active member for 50 years, serving as Scoutmaster, Deacon, Sunday school teacher and Superintendent of numerous departments. His true joy was taking care of infants in the nursery for over 40 years. Bob retired from Eastman as Senior Chemist in 1986 and in 2001, he was named to the Professional Hall of Fame at LMU.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Scoggins; siblings Wilson Scoggins, Martha Moersch, Cleveland Scoggins, Betty Williams, and Frances Stratton.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Bob is survived by his daughter, Katherine, of Kingsport; son, Brian and wife Eileen, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and eight nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 2 pm in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, with visitation immediately following.
