Bobby "Ivan" Jones, 75, Church Hill, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
Ivan was born June 14, 1933, the third of six children, to Robert S. and Lovely M. Templeton Jones. He was raised in East Carters Valley and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married Nora Matlock on December 22, 1959. Ivan retired from AFG Blue Ridge Plant in June 1995 after more than 39 years of service.
Life was an adventure to Ivan. Not a day went by that he did not live to its full potential. He loved to laugh. Travel, videography, and sports were just some of his many hobbies. He loved children; and if there was a small child in the room, he or she would be Ivan's buddy within minutes. He spent many hours with his nieces and nephews in their younger years, and they will each miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Edward Jones.
Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Nora Matlock Jones of Church Hill; two brothers, Harold S. Sam Jones and wife Jean, and Elmer L. Doc Jones and wife Wanda; two sisters, Nancy Wilson and Shirley Carter, all of Kingsport; a sister-in-law, Wilma Jones of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends any time at the home and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Mark A. Roberts officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Holston View Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Shoemaker, Jim Davis, Bill Absher, Billy Ross Jones, Ralph Carter, and Kirby Carter.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to McPheeter's Bend Missionary Baptist Church, 430 Church Road, Church Hill, TN 37642 or the charity of one's choice.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation for the love and care shown to Ivan by the folks at Wellmont Holston Valley, and the many caring friends and neighbors who have been with us, prayed for us, and shown us such consideration.
Our Lord and Savior will never leave us, nor forsake us. He is faithful and true, and we believe and trust Him for our future.
