Brenda Jo Adams, 70, Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, after a courageous, hard fought battle with cancer. Brenda was born on January 21, 1945 to the late Saxon and Elizabeth Dykes. She graduated from Lynn View High school and retired from Wellmont Hospital and later Bays View offices. She was saved 3 years ago and attended Pleasant View Baptist Church. Brenda lived life to the fullest, loved to travel and was an avid reader with a great sense of humor. She was a wonderful wife, sister, aunt and friend who was loved by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Dykes; nephew, Shawn Dykes; and several aunts and cousins.
Left to cherish her memories are her beloved husband of 50 years, M. Wayne Adams; special sister, Claris Vicars; nephews, Mike Vicars, Bart Dykes, Shannon Dykes and Brian Overbay; niece, Jennifer Ward; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Wayne would like to extend a special thank you to the patient care and attention provided by the nurses on the 3rd floor of Wilcox Hall and an extra special thank you to her friends and caregivers, Elizabeth Vanoy, Marcella Mullins, Janet Tomlinson, Carol Jessee, Debbie Keene and Shelly Hopkins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Wayne Baker and Rev. Mike Vicars and Rev. Chase Vicars officiating. Guitar instrumental will be by Isaac Vicars.
The graveside service will be conducted on Sunday at 2:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
