Brenda Brooks DeVault

January 19, 1947 – September 3, 2024

Brenda Brooks DeVault, 77, of Kingsport went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Sep 3, 2024, after a brief fight with colon cancer. Brenda was born in Dickenson County, Virgina, to the late Jerry E. and Gladys S. Brooks, and moved to Kingsport with her family at an early age. In addition to her parents, Brenda was also preceded in death by her brothers David L. and Robert C. Brooks. 

Brenda was a 1965 graduate of Ketron High School, a member of Friendship Chapel Church, a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Brenda retired from Gastroenterology Associates in Kingsport, but also worked many years at the Kingsport Press. She spent the early part of her life working while raising her two sons. In her pastime she enjoyed reading books and playing with her dog, Scooter. She also loved watching UT and UNC sports. 

Brenda is survived by a sister, Joyce Brooks Slemp (Don); two sons, Gary W. (Carmen) DeVault and Tony L. (Deanna) DeVault; three grandchildren, Benjamin C. (Mary Scott) DeVault, Tyler J. (Kelsey) DeVault, and Haley V. Millsap (Nathan); along with six great grandchildren; several nieces; and a nephew. 

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Joseph Hill officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Gary DeVault, Tony DeVault, Benjamin DeVault, Tyler DeVault, Robert DeVault, and Nathan Millsap. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude or the Kingsport Animal Shelter. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tammie Williams, Amanda Dorton, and Amedisys Hospice who helped care for Brenda during this difficult period. The family would also like to highly encourage everyone to get regular colonoscopies completed as recommended by your physician.
