Bruce Quentin Graves 98, died at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center Valley hospital on December 31, 2006.

He was born October 10, 1908 to George Lee and Myrtle Davis Graves in Buena Vista, Virginia.

Bruce retired from the Mead Corporation after over forty years of service. At the time of his retirement, he served as a department superintendent.

As an active member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School for over fifty years, served on two building committees, and chaired the Administrative Board for two terms. He was also a sixty-seven year member of the Buena Vista Masonic Lodge where he served two terms as Grand Master.

In his civic life, Bruce was a member of the Safety Committee of Kingsport, the Mended Hearts group, the Rotary Club, and the Sullivan West Volunteer Fire Department Building Committee and Board.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-nine years, Mary Betty Baird Graves, Kingsport; two daughters, Brenda Goslee and husband, David, Knoxville, and Elizabeth G. Roop and husband, Richard, Henderson, North Carolina; grandchildren Elizabeth G. Helvey, John W. Helvey, III, Richard G. Roop, and Anna R. White and husband, Mark; great granddaughter, Rosemary Helvey-Byers; nephews, James Moore and Lewis Moore, both of Roanoke, VA; and niece, Susan Bangasser, Minneapolis, MN.

The family greatly appreciates the love, care, and support of special friends, David and Jean Hall, and Kathy and Dwain Noel. The devoted care of the nursing staffs at Baysmont Nursing Facility and Wilcox Hall, second floor is also appreciated.

The family will receive friends at the downtown Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park.

A memorial service will be held at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 4, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Kenneth W. LaDuke officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception in the church fellowship hall, following the service.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Glen Alpine UMC Building Fund, 3200 Glen Alpine Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.
