Burl Freeman

Burl Freeman, 86, of Kingsport, died Sunday evening (March 2, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born in Wise County, VA, he had resided in Kingsport since 1948. Burl served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked for Holston Glass for over 20 years before opening Freeman Glass Service in 1973 where he and his wife were owners and operators for over 20 years. He was a member of Gravely Ruritan Club, where he held several district and local offices, Hammond Post of the VFW, and Pine View Freewill Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Funke and staff, Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center staff and Pine View Freewill Baptist Church for their service, care and spiritual support.

Burl was preceded in death by his parents, Claiborne and Bertie Freeman and his brother, Guy Freeman.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elsie Freeman, of the home; one daughter, Joy Lynn Maness, Kingsport; two sons, Mark Freeman and partner Debbie of the home and Alan Freeman and wife Tonya, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Tierra, Michelle, Leanne, and Michael; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014, at Hamlett-Dobson Chapel, Kingsport. The service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Jack Morelock and Rev. James Byford officiating.

The graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by The American Legion Posts 3/265 and Rev. Gary Dean Cavin officiating.

Pallbearers will be Michael Maness, Michael Bailey, Frank Powers, Kyle Barber, Eddie "Chuck" Belcher and Mark Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bloomingdale Hardee's Breakfast Friends and the Gravely Ruritan Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pine View Freewill Baptist Church, 1510 Magic View Dr., Kingsport, TN 37660.
