Burl Garland, 81, Fall Branch, died at his home Saturday August 16, 2008 following a brief illness.
Born in Relief, NC, raised in Johnson City, he had resided in Fall Branch for the last 22 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Garland retired from Rainbow Baking Company in 1985 after 33 years service.
He was owner/operator of Garland's Auto Repair in Fall Branch. Mr. Garland was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Garland; son, Keith Garland; and brother, Ken Garland.
Surviving are his three daughters, Glenda Garber and husband, Robert, Goldsboro, NC, Cathy Dennis and husband, Ken, Lexington, KY, and Darlene Garland, of the home; two sons, Calvin Garland and wife, Jetta, Jonesborough, and Kenneth Garland, of the home; eight grandchildren, Kennetha, Missy, Tina, Johnny, Nikki, David, Stephanie, and Tommy; six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Trevor, Payton, Finley Rose, Connor, and Max; daughter-in-law, Pam Garland, Jackson, TN; sisters, Betty Higginbotham, and Shirley Sneed, both of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. David Guinn officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post 3382 of the VFW.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Garland, William Scott, Derek Hill, Jack Bailey, Johnny Garber, Robert Garber, and Mike Higginbotham.
