Camilla Lynn Compton, 48, died unexpectedly at the University of Virginia Medical Center on Saturday, March 5, 2011. She was the daughter of Edward M. "Jack" Compton and the late Carolyn Bowyer Compton of Palmyra, Virginia. Cam was born on October 27, 1962 in Kingsport, Tennessee, where she lived most of her life. In 2004, she moved to Charlottesville, Virginia and subsequently moved to Burke, VA.
Cam was a warm and loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by her father as well as her sister, Cindy Reynolds of Charlottesville, VA, her brother, Mike Compton of Germantown, TN, niece Claire Wood and husband Robert of Charlottesville, nephew Michael Compton of Germantown, and her cousin Bain Butcher and his wife Nadia of Knoxville, TN. Cam especially loved spending time with the youngest generation, her great niece Kate Wood and cousins Alina and Livia Butcher. In addition to her mother, Cam was recently preceded in death by her aunt Camilla Bowyer Hoard, sister-in-law Yvonne Compton and Uncle David Butcher.
She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She did graduate work at Middle Tennessee State University, and studied clinical psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. At the time of her death, she was nearing completion of her Master's degree at Argosy University.
She was employed by Professional Healthcare Resources in Annandale, Virginia, where she loved her co-workers and her clients. She was heavily involved in their hospice services and bereavement counseling, where she spent much emotional energy helping other families cope with the loss of beloved family members. She had a profound impact on her friends and colleagues as well as her clients, and she will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 12, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Inurnment will be held privately.
