Carl B. Archer, born September 17, 1927, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at his residence.

Carl graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He had a love of music and he was a member University of TN Band, Kingsport Symphony Orchestra, Kingsport Community Band, The Has Beens Band, Kingsport, and The Echos Band.

Carl served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was employed at Westinghouse in Knoxville, TN, Eastman Chemical Company, Mason-Dixon Trucking Company and B&B Package Store. He was a member of Kingsport Jaycees, Downtown Kingsport Optimist Club, past Commander of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Club, Eagles Club at Colonial Heights and the Kingsport Table Tennis Club.

Carl was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Kingsport.

He was preceded in death by wife Patsy Pierce Templeton Archer; parents, Bess and Carl P. Archer; sister-in-law Emma Jean Archer; and step son Thomas C. Templeton, III.

Survivors include his brother Dr. Gene Archer and wife, Judy; step son James R. "Bob" Templeton all of Kingsport; nephew John Archer and wife, Susan of Whitesburg, GA; niece Jan Beach and husband, Andy of Decatur, GA; great-nephews, Robert Lee Archer, Chad H. Archer, Christopher Beach, Matthew Beach; great-nieces, Jessica Archer, Lisa Archer; and three great-great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm Friday, May 20, 2011 at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The service will begin at 2 pm with Rev. Jack Weikel and Rev. J. Spurgeon McCartt officiating. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Military honors conducted by the American Legion Posts #3/265.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Frank Buckles Jr., Dr. Richard McConnell, Howard Cooper, Claude Vance, Eddie Skelton, Bob Yantz, Cobus VanderMerwe and Dr. Art Garrett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Broad Street United Methodist Church, PO Box 1346, Kingsport TN 37662.
