Carl Douglas "Doug" Hinson

Doug Hinson, 69, Church Hill, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

Doug was a life-long resident of this area. He had retired from Kingsport Times-News as Operations Director following 35 years of service. He was a proud member of West View Baptist Church. Doug was a fantastic family man and enjoyed all forms of auto racing. The biggest thrill of his life was his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl B. and Adra Hinson; four sisters, Phyllis Haga, Emogene Montgomery, Lena A. Smith, and Sylvia Hinson; one brother, Burl Hinson; and in-laws, Lon and Ruth Gilliam.

Doug is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Janie Hinson, Church Hill; one daughter, Donna Massengill and husband, Mark, Church Hill; two sons, Bryan Hinson and wife, Melanie, Johnson City; and Kevin Hinson and wife, Janet, Church Hill; three grandchildren, Jessica Dent, Kristin Hinson, and Logan Massengill and wife, Mattie; five sisters, Helen Morelock and husband, Kermit, Minnie Davis and husband, Jess, Carol Crawford and husband, Garry, Judy Jackson, and Kathy Hinson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and nurses of W3 and 5th Floor ICU at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center for all of their love and special care given to Doug and his family.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5 to 7 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow at 7 pm with Pastor Mike Stout officiating.

The graveside service will be conducted on Sunday at 2 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Logan Massengill, Mike Rhoton, Tony Hutchins, Scott Hutchins, Randall Wolfe, Claude Hall, Eddie Volkman, and Robbie Ramsey. Honorary pallbearers will be Bernie Benkey, Ed Robinson, Tom Callaway, Charles Dean, Max Adams, and Jerry Quillen.
