Carl "Mousey" Phillips, 83, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 11, 2010. The owner of Mousey's Antiques, he was retired from Eastman Kodak and had served in the U.S. Navy. He was also a Charter Member and a former President of the Bloomingdale Ruritan, Governor of the Tennessee Ruritan, and on the Board of Directors of the Ruritan, on the National Level. Mousey had also served as a Sullivan County Commissioner from the 10th District. While a Commissioner, he was Chairman of the Education Committee, Budget Committee, and on the Board of the Youth Home. Mousey was also Chairman of the National Kidney Foundation, a lifetime member of the Brookside PTA, and a former Boy Scout Leader. He was a member of Heritage First Church of God and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.
Mousey was preceded in death by his father, Harley Phillips; mother, Ella Phillips; step-mother, Leta Phillips; sisters, Margaret Lee and Ruth Dale; and brothers, John, Jim, and Bill Phillips.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Ellen Phillips of Kingsport; daughters, Carolyn King and husband Steve of Kingsport and Diane Griffin and husband Johnny of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Kevin King and wife Misty, April Steele and husband Denny, Brad Manis, Ryan King and wife Nina, and Sarah Moody and husband Josh; eight great-grandchildren, Mason, Konor, Kealy, Myles, and Natalie King, Griffin Moody, Jordan Patterson, and Peyton Steele; twin brother, Tom Phillips and wife Martha; step-sister, Mary Ellen Leonard of Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Heritage First Church of God on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Stephen Tilley and Rev. Mark Stayton officiating.
Burial will be on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Hill Memorial Park with Military Rites by American Legion Posts #3/265.
