Carl W. Ramsey, 73, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon, August 22nd at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Sullivan County, where he resided all of his life, Carl was a 1957 graduate of Ketron High School and served 3 years in the U.S. Army. He retired from Weyerhaeuser in 2002 after 36 years of service. Carl loved to travel, go camping and especially farming. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Connie Ramsey, and brother, Thomas Ramsey.
Carl is survived by his wife of 48 years, Wilma Jean Ramsey of the home; two sons, Chris Ramsey and wife, Melissa of Kingsport, and Brian Ramsey and wife, Tracy of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Amber, Austin, Daniel and Derek; three sisters, Maryann Laughlin of Kingsport, Martha Williams and husband, Ray of Cleveland, and Nancy Osborne and husband, Hayes of Kingsport; brother, Gale Ramsey and wife, Gerry of Limestone; several nieces, nephews and cousins; farming buddies, John Morton and David Edgell; and special companion, "Rowdy".
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 24th from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 25th at 1:00 pm with Dr. Greg Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Ramsey, Derek Ramsey, Austin Ramsey, Jerry Burrell, John Morton, Ronnie Franklin, Jack Christian and Hayes Osborne. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Bryant, David Edgell, Ted Franklin and Don Hickman.
