Carl Smith, 73, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 5, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. He entered into rest at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Carl was born in Jonesborough and was a life long resident of Kingsport, TN. He served in the United States Air Force from 1958 - 1962. Carl retired from General Shale after 28 years of employment. He was a cherished member of the Moose Lodge, 972 and the Kingsport Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved the Tennessee Volunteers and the New York Yankees.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Mowdy Smith; brothers, James "Jimmy" Avery Smith, and Bobby J. Smith, and longtime girlfriend, Anita Stewart.
Carl is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Mullins and husband, Cpt. Heath Mullins; stepsons, Ted Frazier and wife, James Beck and wife; stepdaughters, Kim Grissom and husband, and Renee Bishop and fiancé; grandchildren, Joseph and Nathan Frazier, Konnor and Keegan Beck, and Allen Gentry; brothers, Willard Smith, Billy Jack Smith, and Johnny Smith; sisters, Nina Kate McClain and Stella Fauver; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 10th from 6-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00 pm. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
