Carl Robert "Bob" Zwanzig, 68, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
A native of Illinois, he has lived several places in his life, having called Tennessee home in recent years. He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Vietnam War. Carl was a design engineer within the packaging industry. When his health allowed him, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He taught ballroom dancing with Arthur Murray and country and western line dancing in Chicago. He was of the Baptist faith.
Carl was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Zwanzig; parents Carl Tyron Zwanzig and Delphine Elizabeth McAlpine.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Brandon Zwanzig; sons, Bobby Zwanzig, Carl Tyron Zwanzig and wife, Martha of Antioch, IL; daughters, Roxanne Rilo of Chicago, IL; Maryanne Zwanzig of Elgin, IL; four step children, Tony Christian, Carla Dalton, Nicki Christian, and Thelma Ford, all of Greeneville, TN; eight grandchildren, eight step grandchildren; one step great-grandson; sisters, Jeannie Warner of Raddison, WI, Margie Ullrich, of Schaumburg, IL, Roxanne Schlobohm of CH; brother Jon Zwanzig and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 pm on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will begin at 7:30 pm with Elder David Moody officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 pm Friday at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
