Carleton Sewell Cunningham, Jr., born January 13, 1933 in Toledo, Ohio to Carleton Sewell and Ethel Sneider Cunningham, died October 11, 2015 at his home in Kingsport, Tennessee.
After a brief career in banking, he was ordained a Priest in the Episcopal Church and served in churches in Tennessee and North Carolina, including St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Colonial Heights and St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kingsport. Carl loved his family, travel, music, the Episcopal liturgy, and history (especially of World War II.)
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nelia Daggett Cunningham; daughter, Leslie Cunningham Forrester and husband, Mike Forrester; son, Carleton Sewell Cunningham, III; and three granddaughters, Mary Michael, Anna Carleton, and Julia Thomas Forrester.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 161 East Ravine Road, Kingsport, TN with Rev. Steve White officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm at the Church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Kingsport, TN 37660.
