Carmen E. Archer

Carmen E. Archer, age 78, of Hickory, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at 11:50 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2010, at Johnson City Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Greeneville, TN, on October 3, 1931, a son of the late Joel Eugene and Flora Brown Archer, he had resided in Hickory, NC, for the last 30 years, having moved from Kingsport.

Mr. Archer was a residential contractor and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Marvin Archer, and by two grandchildren, Tray Golden and Brian Archer.

Survivors include his wife of over 61 years, Georgia Archer, of the home; his children, Diane Golden and husband, Paul, of Claremont, NC, Tommy Archer and wife, Donna, of Limestone, and Judy Goad and husband, James, of Grove, NC; six grandchildren, Allen Archer, Bryon Archer, James Goad, Jr., Jody Goad, Sissy Gunter, and Adrian Golden; two step-grandchildren, John Hyatt and Tara Harold; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Archer Trivitte, of Hickory, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. James Hagy officiating.

Burial will follow graveside services at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010, in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Allen Archer, Bryon Archer, James Goad, Jr., Jody Goad, Sissy Gunter, and Adrian Golden. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hyatt and Tara Harold. Those attending the committal services are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 12:00 noon Thursday and then proceed to the cemetery.
