Carolyn Bowyer Compton, formerly of Kingsport, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2007, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was a resident of Palmyra, Virginia near Charlottesville.
Carolyn was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport, where she was quite active, teaching Sunday School and Training Union, and also encouraging her family in faith. Her strong Christian faith was evident in the way she lived her life, loved her husband, and reared her children.
A graduate of East Tennessee State University, Carolyn was a teacher, spending most of her teaching career in the kindergarten classroom. After she retired from teaching, she served as a dental office manager; then retired to move to the Charlottesville area to be close to her daughters.
Carolyn was a member of the Garden Guild of Ridgefields and counted fellow members as her close friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Clara Bain Bowyer and Harry ?Jack? Francis Bowyer.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Edward ?Jack? Compton. Family members left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cindy Reynolds and Cam Compton, both of Charlottesville; her son, Mike Compton and his wife, Yvonne, Memphis, TN; granddaughter, Claire Leggett Wood and her husband, Robby, Charlottesville; grandsons, Michael Compton, Memphis, and Chip Reynolds, Charlottesville; a sister, Camilla Bowyer Hoard and her husband, Wayne, Kingsport; Camilla?s son, Bain Butcher and his wife, Nadia and their daughter, Alina, Knoxville, TN. She was dearly loved by her family and her many friends and will be sorely missed.
A committal service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 28th, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
There will be a memorial service at First Baptist Church of Kingsport on Sunday, January 28, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Marvin Cameron and Dr. Ronald Davis officiating. A family visitation will be held at the church immediately following the service.
