Carolyn Ruth Sherfey, 57, of Reservoir Road, Kingsport, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at her home. Carolyn was born in Kingsport where she had lived her entire life. She had worked for a number of years having been a cook until she retired. She attended Gospel Mission Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Earl Cox, and a sister, Wanda Marshall.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Orville Sherfey; sons Donald Sherfey, Dave Sherfey and wife Brenda, Darrell Sherfey, and Daniel Sherfey and wife Cheryl, mother, Mary Elizabeth Cox, all of Kingsport; grandchildren, Donald Sherfey, Jr., Nicholas Sherfey, Hayley Byrd, Serena Sherfey, Joe and Courtney Sherfey, and Kassidy, JoBeth and Lacey Sherfey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl Wayne Cox and wife Marie, James Keener Cox, Louise Light, Linda and Jackie Morrison, Ruth and Terry McNabb, Stanley and Liz Sherfey, William and Mildred Sherfey, Orgie and Lois Sherfey; special adopted son, Kelley Southerland and daughter Christie Mauk; special adopted grandson, Spencer Southerland; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Rev. Orville Dolen Honorary minister, Rev. Danny Dolen, Rev. Louie Meade, and Rev. Shelton Meade officiating and music provided by Heavenly Reflections.
Graveside services will be on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Beulah Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Light, Wayne Light, Terry Christian, Kelley Southerland, Rudy Huffman, and Brad Shaffer. Scott Morrison, Brian Morrison, Dustin Light, and Brad Compton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
