Carroll Ervin Russell passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011. He was born February 27, 1923 in Stanly County, town of Albemarle, NC.

Carroll graduated from Albemarle High School in 1940 and worked for The Stanly News & Press as an apprentice and then for Cannon Wiscasset Mills. He entered the military service Army A.F. in 1942 and graduated as a heavy bomber B-42 pilot in 1944. Carroll flew 21 combat missions in WWII European Theater and survived one crash landing from enemy action. He entered North Carolina State College in 1946 and graduated as Textile Engineer and was employed by Eastman Kodak's Tennessee Division in 1949. In 1965 he went to work in the Fibers Division as Senior Engineer and retired in 1983 after 34 years of service.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ervin Earl Russell and Jettie Beatrice Lowe Russell, and son, John Earl Russell.

Carroll is survived by his wife; Ellen Wagoner Russell, Kingsport, daughter; Martha Ellen Russell Farmer, Kingsport, sons; Carroll Mark Russell, Morehead North Carolina, and Robert Alan Russell, Boone North Carolina, seven grandchildren; Lindsey Rae, Florida, Brittnay Russell of Colorado, Carroll Preston Russell of Winston Salem, NC, Jessica Russell of Morehead City, NC, Anna Marie Farmer, of Pensacola, FL, Alan Russell of Boone, NC, Sara Russell of Boone, NC and great grandchild, Julie Wynn Ross of Fla.

A Memorial service will be conducted at 3 pm Sunday November 6, 2011 in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes with Pastor J.W. Depew officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
