Cecil Herron, 74 of Kingsport went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at his home after an extended illness.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Cecil was employed by Eastman Kodak until he retired in 1992 after 26 years of service.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Elijah and Rosa Herron; a sister, Thelma Herron; and a brother, Alfred Herron.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Glenna Herron; a son Jay Herron and wife Shannon of Kingsport; daughter, Melissa Ross and husband Dwayne of Fall Branch; grandchildren, Angela, Jessica, Chelsea, Misty, Amber, and Michael; great-grandchildren, Isabella and Michael; brother, Otis Herron and wife Hazel of Weber City, Virginia; a sister, Mattie Russell of Weber City; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends any time at the home and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Calhoun and Rev. Glenn Hicks officiating. Music will be provided by Danny Moneyhun, Danielle Moneyhun, and Susie Williams.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Ross, Michael Ross, Wayne Moneyhun, Tommy Moneyhun, Billy Moneyhun, and Clifford Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be Otis Herron and Jim Gibson.
