Cecil Rose, 84, of Kingsport, died Thursday morning, December 13, 2007, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation-Hillside after an extended illness.
Born in Dickenson County, Virginia, he had resided in Kingsport most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. Cecil retired from Kingsport City Fire Department where he served as Captain for many years. He and his son, Steve, received the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and the V.F.W.
His son, Steve Rose, preceded him in death on November 13, 2007; he is also preceded in death by his parents, Walden and Mattie Rose; brother, Earl Rose; and a sister Virginia Coleman.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Weatherly Rose, Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Cathy Rose, Kingsport, TN; three grandchildren, Curt Rose and wife, Jenny, Kingsport, Chris Rose and wife, Jill, Grundy, VA, and Caty Rose, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382.
