Cecil E. ?Gene? Staten, 71, of Kingsport, passed away Friday, December 7, 2007, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Greene County to Buford G. and Leta Staten but had lived most of his life in Kingsport.
Gene retired from Holliston Mills in 1988 due to an injury after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of #549 Local Teamsters Union and a former member of the Moose Lodge where he served as an officer. He was of the Baptist faith.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Buford and Leta Staten; a brother, Rex Staten; and two sisters, Eunice Boggs and Charlotte Coleman.
Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Betty J. Welch Staten of the home; one daughter, Angela Hutsell and husband, Johnny of Kingsport; one son, Jeff E. Staten and wife, Anita, of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Taylor Hutsell, Halee Hutsell, Victoria Hutsell; five sisters, Geraldine Morelock, Kingsport, Polly Fulkerson, Petersburg, VA, Ruth Simpson, Fall Branch, Alice Booher and husband, Denver, Fall Branch, Patsy Pierce, Baileyton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor J. W. Depew and Otis Elmer Tate officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
