Cecil L. Street, Kingsport, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was the son of the late Hobert and Martha Street of Bakersville, NC. Cecil served six years in the U. S. Navy during World War II on the USS Gentry, a destroyer escort that saw service in the Mediterranean and the Pacific.

He attended East Tennessee State University and was employed by Mason-Dixon Truck Lines and ABF Trucking Company. While employed with Mason Dixon Truck Lines, Cecil was a Tennessee state champion, five axle class, on three separate occasions in the American Trucking Associations' Drivers' Rodeo competition where he earned the right to complete in the national competition each time. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

Cecil was a charter member of Elks Lodge #1985 in Erwin, TN and a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He enjoyed golf in his younger days and during retirement, and he loved UT football.

He was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Street; son-in-law, Kenny Kilgore; three brothers, Charlie, Clyde, and H. P. Street; and one sister, Leona Miller.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Canipe Street; son, Daniel Street and wife Laurie of Kingsport; son, David Street and wife Jan of Kingsport; daughter, Debra Street-Kilgore of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Buster Street of Erwin, TN; sister, Louise Rice of Erwin, TN; and four grandchildren, Danielle, Drew, Dayton, and Natalie, all of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Seay and Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Colonial Heights United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 6027, Kingsport, TN 37663; or the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Suite 113, Johnson City, TN 37604.
