Cecile Quillen Bowling

Cecile Q. Bowling, 86, of Gate City, Virginia, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 16, 2008, at Baysmont following a period of declining health.

She was a native of Scott County, Virginia, and was employed by Tennessee Eastman Company briefly before devoting her life to her family. Cecile was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church, Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center Women's Auxiliary, and for several years a member of the Scott County Home Demonstration Club. She loved gardening, flower arranging, cooking, and - most important - her family. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 67 years, W. Harry Bowling Jr.; her parents, Miles E. and Elizabeth W. Quillen; one sister, Lucille Hammond; and two brothers, Miles Quillen Jr. and Buster Brown Quillen Sr.

Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Bowling of Knoxville; two sons, Bill Bowling and wife Toni of Gate City, Robbie Bowling of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Laura McDavid of Knoxville, Justin Bowling of Kingsport; two sisters, JoAnn Kolb of Atlanta, GA, Shirley Franklin of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of special friends.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Asbury Center at Baysmont for their special care to our mother for the past four years.

No formal visitation is planned. Those desiring may sign the register book at their convenience at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Will Shewey officiating. Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Suite 113, Johnson City, TN 37604 or the charity of one's choice.
