Cephas Sloan Sr

Cephas Sloan, Sr., went to be with the Lord in Paradise on Sunday, June 1, 2014.

Born in Scott County, VA, he has resided most of his life in Kingsport. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School and East Tennessee State University. Cephas was retired from Tennessee Eastman after 40 years of service as a Senior Research Chemist. He was a member of Colonial Heights Christian Church. Cephas was very active in several area churches during his life (Glen Alpine UMC, Colonial Heights UMC, and Colonial Heights Christian Church.) He was a devoted family man.

Cephas was preceded in death by his son, Cephas Sloan, Jr.; parents, Harry and Maxie Sloan; in-laws, H.J. and Alice Gilliam; and brother-in-law, Audley Gilliam.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Frances G. Sloan; son, John Wesley Sloan and wife, Lisa; seven grandchildren, Scherry Bryant, Franci Sloan-Leu, Carolyn Sloan Chapman, Jennifer Sloan Prewitt, Cephas Sloan III, James Sloan, and Mary Katherine Sloan; three great-grandchildren, Emily Bryant, Bobby Bryant, and Tristan Chapman; two sisters, Ernestine Mongle, and Helen Taylor and husband, Russell; sister-in-law, Wanda Gillam; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The service will follow at 7 p.m. with Phil Roberts, Minister, and Rev. J. Russell Taylor officiating.

The family will have a private entombment service. Pallbearers will be Patrick Leu, Doyle Morelock, Matthew Prewitt, Steve Belote, Steve Taylor, Brad Belote, and Carl Marcum.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Sam Wiles, Dr. Tom Bulle, Don Royston, Dr. Richard Reed, Dr. William Hudson, Todd Dixon, Dr. Mike Winsor, Dr. David Guy, and Walt Turpening.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Colonial Heights Christian Church, 105 Meadow Lane, Kingsport, TN 37663.
