Charles Wilburn Allgood, 90, of Kingsport, TN passed away peacefully with his family Friday night, June 7. Wilburn was born September 19, 1928 in Harlan, KY to Ollie and Reva Allgood. He was the first of five children.
A graduate of Sullivan High School, he went on to serve in the United States Air force during the Korean War as a Tech Sergeant. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Following his service, he returned to work at Mead Corporation as a Laboratory Technician for 31 years.
On April 5, 1961 he and Betty Jo McKay married. They remained together for 53 years until Betty's death. They had one daughter, Alison Allgood.
A kind and gentle man, Wilburn cared for his wife and daughter far beyond any ordinary measure. He was a founding member of Mafair United Methodist Church in Kingsport, where he remained an active member the rest of his life. He enjoyed classic cars and was a long time member of the Appalachian British Car Club. He was a 50 year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and a Shriner in good standing for more than 50 years.
He is predeceased by parents, O.C. and Reva Allgood; and sister, Mary Lou Martin.
He is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Suzy Allgood, Owen and Pat (d.) Allgood, and Jerry and Pam Allgood; daughter, Alison Allgood; and grandson, Hunter Fox.
No service or receiving of friends will be held, per Wilburn's wishes.
