Funeral services for Charles "Chuck" Talmege Cale, 81, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2012, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport, Tennessee. Interment with full military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport, Tennessee. Chuck passed away Friday, August 24, 2012, at his home in Marshall. He was born August 31, 1930, in Centerville, Alabama, to Trenton Cale and Gurtha Lean Wallace.
Charles was delivered by his grandmother, Mamie P. Wallace, who also reared him. He loved old music and dancing with one of his great-grandsons, Drake. He served 30 years in the US Air Force and received Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, AF Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, AF Outstanding Unit Award, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with one silver and one bronze oak leaf cluster, and the National Defense Service Medal with one service star. He was also credited with the slogan "Top Cover for America" used by the Alaskan Air Command. He retired in 1982 as a Colonel stationed at Barksdale AFB where he served as Comptroller for the 8th Air Force.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Madlyn Maley Cale; daughters, Teresa Hall, and Catherine-Cale Roberts and husband, Don; step-daughters, Pam Lindley and husband, Jim, and Dea Ann Grigsby and husband, Brad; brothers, David Turner, and Fred Turner, Jr., both of Tennessee; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Marie McAmis Cale; grandmother, Mamie P. Wallace; brother, Normal Cale; mother, Gurtha Lean Wallace; and step-daughter, Jo Lynn Maley Fleming.
Memorial may be made to the Sjograns Syndrome Foundation; Wesley United Methodist Church, Marshall, TX; Reagan Ranch; or St. Labre Indian School.
