Charles (Chuck) Melvin Amerson passed away July 11, 2023 after a long battle with liver cancer. He was born on July 3, 1963 in Charleston, South Carolina to Charles T. and Elisabeth C. Amerson. He is survived by his son, Michael; daughter, Rachel; and sister, Elisabeth (Beth) Coker.
Chuck loved to ride his Harley Davison. He loved gunsmithing and was a very talented wood worker.
Chuck served 17.5 years in the U.S. Military and was medically retired. He served in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. He traveled to over 35 countries and earned many awards and decorations. He was a Flight Engineer in the U.S. Air Force and a Medic in the U.S. Army.
Chucks’ biggest love was his son Michael. Chuck was admired for the way he fought against his cancer. Everything was on his terms and his terms only. He invested many hours of research into all medicines and medical procedures. Chuck outlived the doctors’ prognosis by 2.5 years. Chuck was born with a positive attitude and exemplified through his daily life. Chuck met life head on and never backed down.
Chuck’s love for God was measured by his love of family. Chucks’ love for our country was defined by his measure of service to our country. He joined the U.S. Air Force and then the U.S. Army. Perhaps, by Chucks’ way of thinking, the U.S. stood for Us. Chuck joined and stood for Us.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Military graveside services will be conducted on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery, with military honors by The American Legion Posts 3/265.
