Charles "Ben" Benjamin DeGreen, Sr., 77, of Kingsport, died in Christ on March 6, 2014, surrounded by his family at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Born in Catawissa, Pennsylvania on July 15, 1936, he was the son of the late Truman and Pauline Hollingshead DeGreen.
Ben served in the U. S. Army as a member of the 639th Transportation Company and was an active member of the American Legion Hammond Post 3. He retired after 35 ½ years from Eastman Kodak Company.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Ben enjoyed time with his family, church and sports, including coaching and cheering on his children and grandchildren.
Ben and Carol Jane were happily married and would have celebrated their 55th anniversary on May 23, 2014.
He is also survived by his children, Cathy Whittaker and husband Luke of Knoxville, Ben DeGreen, Jr. and wife Kim of Kingsport, Chris DeGreen of Birmingham, AL, and Cheryl Hoye and husband Chip of Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Lucas and Chelsey Whittaker, Ben III and Julia DeGreen, Calley, Cassidy and Caden DeGreen, and Helen Caroline Hoye.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Services will follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Steve Counts officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin DeGreen III, Lucas Whittaker, Luke Whittaker, Scott Mazzei, John Hollowell, and Zach Askew.
