Charles Dulaney

Kingsport - Charles Wright Dulaney, 76, of Kingsport died Monday, April 14, 2008, at his home. He was born in Bristol, Virginia, and was the son of the late Robert N. and Elizabeth Minton Dulaney. He was descended from several early East Tennessee families, including the Dulaneys, Rheas, and Taylors.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Marion Seaborn Dulaney, in September, 2005, and by a twin brother, Robert Rhea Dulaney, in 1965.

Charles moved to the Chattanooga area with his family at an early age, and was a graduate of Battle Ground Academy, Franklin, Tennessee. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Chattanooga and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech, and was a registered professional engineer in the state of Tennessee. He served as an officer in the Naval Reserve, and was on active duty from 1953 through 1956. He was employed by the Tennessee Eastman Division of Eastman Kodak Company for thirty-four years, retiring as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in 1993. After his retirement he was active in Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity, and served as the co-treasurer of the Kingsport Community Ministry Center.

Charles was a lifelong Presbyterian, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport since 1959, where he served as an elder.

He is survived by two sons, Charles David Dulaney and wife, Susan Greene Dulaney, of Greensboro, NC, and Robert Brian Dulaney and wife, Amy Miller Dulaney, of Kingsport, and by a daughter, Susan Maddox and husband Bruce A. Maddox, of Maitland, FL. He is also survived by a grandson, Charles Jackson Dulaney, of Asheville, NC, by three granddaughters, Lucy and Laney Maddox, of Maitland, and Katharine Dulaney, of Greensboro, by a sister, Mary D. Postero, of Scottsdale, AZ, and by a niece and nephew, Steven and Nancy Postero. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Susan Seaborn Cauttrell and husband Chris, of St. Louis, and especially dear cousins-in-law, Don and Sandra Leslie, of Blowing Rock, NC, and Atlanta, GA.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport with The Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle and Rev. L. Craig Foster officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
