Charles E. "Charlie" Alvis, 75, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 16, 2017 following a lengthy illness. Born in Rogersville on November 27, 1941, a son of the late Ray and Ruby Alvis, he had resided in this area his entire life. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School. Charlie was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Kingsport Press following 42 years of service. He will be remembered as a loving dad, papaw, brother and friend. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed guitars and singing.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Jack Alvis.
Charlie is survived by his daughters, Amye Lane and husband, Jonathan of Kingsport, Brandi Akers and husband, Shannon of Kingsport, and Jennifer Brewster and husband, Brennan of Kingsport; grandchildren, Josh Harris, Dustin Harris, Melanie Lane, Logan Brewster, Lucinda Brewster and Desmond Brewster; brother, Bill Alvis and wife, Jean of Church Hill, TN; sister-in-law, Carol Alvis of Kingsport; and 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Greystone Health Care for all their support.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday at 7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Preacher Harlan McDavid officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
