Charles Melton Eberhart, Jr., 78, of Kingsport, died on Easter morning, April 8, 2012.

Born in 1933 in Atlanta, GA, Charles was the son of Charles Melton Eberhart, Sr. and Annie Mary Waldrop Eberhart. He spent his boyhood years in Atlanta, Albany, Athens, and Augusta, GA.

He graduated from Mercer University in 1956 with a B.S degree, where he served in the Army ROTC and was a member of the golf team and Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was married on April 28, 1957, to Joyce Johnston of Atlanta.

He was employed by the Citizens and Southern National Bank in Atlanta early in his career and moved to Kingsport in 1971 to join the staff of First National Bank of Sullivan County. He subsequently established C.M. Eberhart Company, Inc., serving clients in 15 states. From 2000 to 2002, he was President of Lumber King, Inc. in Whitley City, Kentucky, where he established a Rotary International Club. He served as adjunct instructor in banking, marketing, and public relations at Clinch Valley College now University of Virginia - Wise, Mountain Empire Community College, and Milligan College.

His most joyful work came later in his life, when he served as a part-time local pastor for Arcadia, Fudges Chapel, Chalybeate Springs and Okolona United Methodist churches. His great love was caring for church members.

An enthusiastic golfer, he often recounted a childhood memory of seeing Bobby Jones play at East Lake, and in later years, he enjoyed playing golf with Anne and Charlie during vacations at Hilton Head.

Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Joyce; three children: Elaine, of Rochester, MN, Anne of Johnson City, TN and Charlie, of Nashville, TN; a brother, Ralph Eberhart Wanda of Atlanta; a sister, Ruby Ann Oxford Allen, of Mandeville, LA; and by nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at First Broad Street United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Mickey Rainwater, Rev. David Graves, Rev. Spurgeon McCartt, Rev. Jack Edwards and Rev. Homer Roller officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
