Charles Edward (Bud) Farmer, age 90, left this world December 30, 2024, to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born in Derby, VA, December 3, 1934, and grew up in Crackers Neck, VA before building a wonderful life with family and many friends in Kingsport, TN. Charles was of the Baptist Faith. He was a proud Army Veteran serving in the Korean War 1951-1953. Charles was employed by former Mead Paper 29+ years and retired from Willamette Industries in March 2000. He belonged to United Steelworkers Union Local 12943-Kingsport, TN, the American Legion Hammond Post No. #3-Kingsport, TN and VFW Post 3382, Kingsport, TN.
In addition to his parents, Bradley Farmer and Grace Dean Farmer Spears Shelton, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois June Slagle Farmer (mother of his 5 children); his youngest son, Charles Glenn Farmer; brothers, Carl Joe Farmer, Bradley Farmer, Sr.; and sister, Shirley Farmer Dockery.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Johnson Farmer; three daughters, Blenda Farmer Anderson (James), Mary Farmer Banks (Corbin, Jr.), Rhonda Farmer Parsons (Lester); and son, Carl Edward Farmer all of Kingsport, TN.; two stepsons, Randy Johnson and Gary Johnson (Lisa); six grandchildren, Dwayne Corbin Banks (Pam), Julie Amanda Anderson Thacker (Michael Drue), Richard Isaac France (Rachel), Tosha Nicole Banks Hall (Bodey), Beth Parsons Coleman (Adam), and Melissa Nichole Parsons; step granddaughter, Tabitha Johnson Ingram (Logan); two step grandsons, Matthew Johnson (Gracie) and Preston Johnson; three great grandsons, Isaac Todd France, Wyatt Dewayne Hall, Lester (Lee) Wilson Coleman; one great granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Holden; sister, Brenda Spears Wilson; brothers, Claude Jackson (CJ) Farmer and Rev. Malcolm Lloyd Shelton; and many nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at noon with Rev. Malcolm Shelton and Bradley Farmer III officiating.
Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Garden of Last Supper.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
