Charles A. “Chuck” Green, age 97, of Kingsport, Tennessee, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, March 14, 2025. Chuck was born in Chicago, Illinois, lived in Memphis, Tennessee for 55 years, then moved to Kingsport in 2002. He was a member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church.
Chuck joined the Air Force Pilot Training program and began active-duty service in 1945; he was honorably discharged in February 1947. He continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves until 1987.
He graduated from Memphis State College in 1951 with a degree in accounting. Chuck worked for Kraft Inc. in Memphis for 36 years, retiring in March 1988. After many years of study, he obtained his CPA license in 1984. Chuck continued working as a CPA, both full-time and part-time until 2013.
In his later life, Chuck’s hobbies were working crossword puzzles, watching sports on TV and watching the Hallmark channel.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Bonnell and Florence Kent Green; his beloved wife of 71 years, Betty M. Green; brother, Richard W. Green, Sr.; and son-in-law, Clay Lewis.
He is survived by three children, Patricia G. Lewis, Todd L. Green and Talea G. Tatro and her husband, Leonard; three grandchildren, Joe Maltby, Katie Pumphrey and Andy Lewis; two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Lucy Pumphrey; two nephews, Richard W. Green, Jr. and Robert Green; and two nieces, Shirley Verble and Sandra Clark.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church, Kingsport.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Waverly Road Presbyterian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
