Charles King "C.K." Harvey, Jr., 94, of Kingsport, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at Indian Path Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Bluefield, Virginia, he had resided in Kingsport since 1927. C. K. was a 1937 graduate of Sullivan High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a Captain during WWII and the Korean Conflict. C.K. retired from Eastman Chemical in 1981 after 42 years of service. He was a member of Cassidy United Methodist Church, and several other service organizations.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Juanita M. Harvey; a daughter, Sharon E. Freeman; grandson, Andrew Freeman; sister, Lorene Swinney; brothers, Joseph E. Harvey and F. Kenneth Harvey.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Dickson Harvey, of the home; daughter, Charlene Walker, Fredericksburg, VA; sons, Charles King Harvey, III, of Kingsport, and Henry Joseph Boyd Harvey, II, and wife, Aleeta, also of Kingsport; eight grandchildren: Bob, Michael, Joseph, Lauren, Casey, Jessica, Jonathan, and Abigail; two great-grandchildren, Kenyon and Taytem; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, on Saturday from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Services will follow at 2:00, with the Rev. Gary Bement officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with military rites conducted by American Legion Posts #3/265. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
