Charles Lawson, 74, of Kingsport, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Indian Path Medical Center. Born in Scott County, Virginia, he had retired in 1986 as a Staff Sergeant from the United States Army, having served in Vietnam and numerous overseas assignments. Following his military retirement, he worked for the Department of the Army in Finances and Accounting and retired from there in 2009.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Lawson; and sister, Brenda Davis.
Charles is survived by his wife, Jean Hale Lawson; son, Charles D. (Bonnie) Lawson; granddaughter, Mollie K. Lawson; grandson, Jack R. Lawson; mother, Ruby L. Lawson; brothers, Larry (Caroline Sue) Lawson, Virgil (Darlene) Lawson, and Clyde (April) Lawson; sisters, Nella (Les) Phillips; Debbie (Robert) Monette, and Sandy Owens; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow with Pastor David Salley officiating.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
